Memorial to the flood disaster of 14./15. July 2021

In the night of July 14th to 15th, 2021, Eschweiler was hit by a devastating flood disaster. Around 13,000 people in our city were directly affected by the flooding.

This 3.70 m high slate monolith indicates the highest level of the flood in Eschweiler. At the same time, the stones should give hope to the people – especially the children and young people – in our city and point out the changes brought about by climate change. The result is a total work of art, which also serves as a sundial.

The memorial to the flood disaster in Eschweiler was also included in the “European Sculpture Path”
